Virginia N. Hosley

August 21, 1918 - June 16, 2016

Virginia N. Hosley, born August 21st 1918 in Charlotte, NC. Went peacefully to her Heavenly Home on June 16, 2016. She spent her youth in New York City and then Long Island environs. She was educated in NYC Schools. Her heart found Wells in 1937. It never left Wells, although she and her husband spent many years living and working in the US and various foreign countries including Ethiopia, Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia to name a few. Her love of Wells and its people never waned. It was her Eden! Her love of life showed in the many activities that she involved herself in such as The Wells School Morning Program reading to the children. This later led to her founding the Wells Library which later was renamed “The Virginia Hosley Free Library”. She hosted the H2O & 30 Below Ski Club at her home for many years including the Historical Association, Wells Old Home Days etc… Virginia was the 1st “Queen” of the Red Belles of Wells, Red hat Society. She enjoyed reading, quilting (many pieces donated to organizations to raffle), cross stitch, crossword puzzles, politics and her church. She was a bowler and golfer, both of which brought her great enjoyment and friendships. She was published author of poetry and short stories (The Adventures of Mr. Moosetefer). Virginia was a great hostess and party giver extraordinaire! Virginia had a love for animals; especially her dogs, Mimi, Eric & Trudy, Gabby de Ilse, just to name a few. She also had many dog visitors, Murphy, McAllister, Nellie…who visited her for that special treat she always had for them and made sure each one felt that they were the one and only dog in her life! She also loved to watch her birds feed outside of her windows which she kept stocked in seed, suet and syrup. She was predeceased by her husband John, her daughter Pamela Jean and son Robert. She leaves 5 grandchildren and the wonderful people of Wells, Hamilton County and her beloved haven on Lake Algonquin. The “V”-Team would like to thank all of her family of friends who helped, prayed stopped by to see her, or anything that you did for her to make her wish of being at home able to happen in her last days. “Thank You!” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Virginia Hosley Free Library” in c/o of John Menke PO Box 17, Wells NY 12190. A memorial service is planned on July 9, 2016 at 1pm at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Route 30, Wells, NY 12190. Please visit the online guestbook at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
