Richard "Dick" Weaver

May 28, 1924 - November 29, 2015

Richard L. Weaver, or Dick, a longtime resident of Northville, born May 28, 1924 in Amsterdam, NY passed away on November 29, 2015 at 91 years young. He is survived by several children, grandchildren and friends. After graduating from Northville Central School, he entered the U.S. Military Service with the 5th Army Air Force. He served his country as a Corporal in WWII with a tour in the South Pacific, primarily in New Guinea. Dick worked for many years as head custodian and bus driver for Northville Central School. In his retirement he worked full time at Allen and Palmers Hardware Store until just a few years ago. He had a quiet but humorous personality. His grandchildren will fondly remember his harmonica playing and storytelling. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His family would like to thank so many for the care they gave him and the joy they added to the years of his life. His caregivers in the home: Gabby, who called him “sunshine”; Frank and Nicole who were the first I’d heard call him “Richard” in the sweetest manner possible; Joyelle (I don’t know what you called him – that’s probably a good thing – but every time you told him you were “out with the trash” you made him laugh and smile!, and Miriam – his co-veteran who called him “Pickleman” who was steadfast in caring, laughing and crying with him and who has since helped us know things about him we might otherwise have not. (You should have been getting therapist compensation!). The Access van drivers, the caregivers at the Wells House Medical Day Program and Randy have been a joy to him as well. Tom and Lisa Wood and Chris Edwards who helped him realize his lifelong desire to be the Grand Marshall of a parade (funny story behind that one….). Chrissy and Darlene of Northampton Diner who gave him kisses and hugs with his food; Jackie Nichols of Four Corners Diner – what can I say?..... your specials are what he lived for… and your calls to notify his family if he seemed to have not been feeling up to par were so appreciated too. Jeff Sherman – Dad’s faithful friend and dinner companion, you have been so good to him. Michelle Reidell, thank you for dashing over between work and coaching to make meetings, and for doing the paperwork. Rob and Molly for the accommodations, Tom for the “transportation”. Everyone at Allen and Palmers who treated him like family; took care of him and sat him in the place of honor next to Verkeleer’s clam cooking station at your picnics. Shawn, for everything in the garden… and for Dr. Detweiler and everyone at St. Mary’s Health Clinic who treated him like a VIP… and finally for the doctors, nurses, aides, secretaries, etc. at Nathan Littauer ER and ICU who cared for Dad in those final days. To all of you and many more we may be unaware of, Thank You from his family…….. Richard L. Weaver has left us to be with his mother Ruth and eldest son Richard, and is probably in search of a good place to eat and tell a story – we hope he finds one! There will be a service at the Veterans National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite among the following: Wells Medical Day Program, The Alzheimer’s Foundation, NYS ARC, Veterans programs… or just tell someone a good joke and contribute a laugh to someone’s day. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Northville Funeral Home.
