Raymond G. Yorks Sr.

May 6, 1937 - April 2, 2022

Raymond George Yorks Sr. passed away suddenly and quietly on Saturday April 2, 2022. Ray (a.k.a Algie), was born in Mayfield to Algy and Iona (Dutcher) Yorks. He had four brothers; Bob, Paul (Dec.), Dale and Albert. After his time in the Air Force, he was married to Elsie Walton for 53 years, until her passing in 2015. In his younger years, among other jobs, he was a respected bus driver for Mayfield School District with many stories to tell. He lived in Mayfield a good portion of his life and was a volunteer firefighter, including Asst. Fire Chief and Fire Chief for a time. He enjoyed country and bluegrass music (especially Mac Wiseman), calling square dances, coffee shops where all the good gossip was, riding motorcycle and playing cards with friends. His youngest son, James (Snuffy) died in 1988. He is survived by his son Ray Jr. and wife Chrissy, his daughters Deb and Laurie, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren and companion Ellen Johnson. Although he moved around in the past couple decades, he always considered Mayfield home and will be remembered and missed by many. There will be a celebration of life at the Mayfield Servicemen’s Club on Saturday April 9th at Noon. All who wish to attend are welcome. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Northville Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
