Matthew R. Williams

March 24, 1938 - January 7, 2019

Matthew Williams, age 80, of Fonda passed away peacefully on January 7, 2019 at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown after a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 24, 1938, the son of the late Alfred and Christine Wicenciuk. Matt was most proud of being a member of the Teamsters Local #294 for over forty years. Most of those years he was the shop steward. He worked for Calim Shaffer until the beginning of the takeover by Callanan Industries. Upon retiring from Callanan he continued working as a mechanic for The Town of Mohawk. Matt retired from the town in 2011. He enjoyed keeping busy and was a man of many trades, he enjoyed remodeling and rebuilding all sort of cars and trucks. Matt was drafted by the United States Army and served two years. Matthew is predeceased by his wife, Carol Calhoun Williams whom he wed, November 6, 1960. They were married for 55 years until her passing on November 13, 2015. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service of remembrance will take place in the Spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, where Matt will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Carol. An announcement will be made at that time. Matthew's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Wells Nursing Home for their exceptional care and compassion for Matthew and his family during his stay there.
