Mary Ellen Winn Finch passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on Monday, July 13, 2020 with family by her side. She was born in Edinburg, NY. The loving daughter of Alta Drusilla Edwards Winn and Arnold Benjamin Winn. She was pre-deceased by her parents and brother David G. Winn. Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert G. Finch. Her five children Randall R. Finch (Renee) of Edinburg, Evonne M. Barber (John) of Edinburg, Rodney G. Finch (Dawn) of Edinburg, Evette M. Ostrander (Bart) of Mayfield and Reggie B. Finch (Rebecca) of Providence. Her nine Grandchildren Amber Vandenburg (Catlin), Gordon Finch (Mandy), Jessica West (Jason), Robert Barber (Tanya), Kayla Hayes (Will), Cynthia Ostrander, Shadow Ostrander (Heather), Jenna Finch and Kaylee Finch. Her eleven Great Grandchildren Trevor and Travis Vandenburg, Luke and Molly West, Rodney and Sadie Hayes, Matthew and Konner Barber, Lillian Comini, Ellie and Lydia Ostrander. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. She graduated from Northville Central School and immediately went to work for Lee and Mason in Boston, MA. Lee and Mason then transferred her to Gloversville, NY where she continued her employment. She met her husband of 58 years, Robert G. Finch in 1961 in Edinburg where they built their forever home. She stayed home to raise their 5 children of whom she was very proud of. While raising her children, she would bake her famous bread to sell at the Fullers Corner Store in Edinburg as well as delivering the local newspaper and assumed the role of Edinburg Town Clerk to help earn money. After her children were raised, she continued to work at Tic Tac Toe Shoe Co. in Gloversville, then Millers Concrete in Mayfield and retired from Cranesville Block. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family mostly, but had many hobbies as well such as puzzles, crocheting, gardening, canning, baking, cooking, and watching her favorite driver in NASCAR, Jeff Gordon. She was famous for her bread, rolls, clam chowder and homemade BBQ sauce. One of her many talents was finding four leaf clovers. Her most recent years, she spent typing up 70+ years of her grandmother’s diaries to preserve so that others would be able to read them too. She enjoyed planning and organizing many family parties and events. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Northville Funeral Service, Bridge St, Northville. Burial and services will also be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 1:00pm at the Clarkville Cemetery, Tennantville Rd., Edinburg. Due to the Covid-19 and the most current NYS occupancy requirements only 25 visitors at a time will be allowed in the funeral home. Masks and social distancing is required.
