Mari C. Wilson

January 24, 1950 - March 10, 2017

Mari C. Wilson, Wells, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on March 10, 2017. She was born in Utica, NY on January 24, 1950, to Arthur William and Geraldine Mary (Wheelock) Carpenter. As the eldest daughter of ten, she had a great and protective nature and love for all of her siblings. On May 29, 1971, she married her best friend and partner in life, E. Joseph Wilson, Jr. Together, they had two daughters and spent the entirety of their life’s journey in the town of Wells. Mari was a witty, kind, compassionate, and selfless individual. She spent her life giving to others and never requested anything in return. She touched many lives in her years working at the Country Kitchen Restaurant, reporting for Hamilton County News, serving as the Wells Town Clerk, and the Wells Court Clerk. She was a gifted writer and artist; a creative and free-spirited soul. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, adventures to Arizona and Florida, observing her outdoor pets (Toady and Spots), spending time with her Carpenter clan, and playing with her grandchildren. Mari was a respected member of the Wells community and was thought of fondly by all who knew and worked with her. Mari was a special and much loved wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and Mimi. She loved her family unconditionally and will be greatly missed. Mari was predeceased by both parents and three brothers, Arthur William Carpenter, Jr., Duane Gerard Carpenter, and Donal Robert Carpenter. She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, E. Joseph Wilson Jr.; her two daughters Naomi Barkevich (Daniel), Halfmoon, and Cristi Wilson (Jeremy LaBuff), of Flagstaff, Arizona; four grandsons Kevin, David, Kyle, and Keem; her step-mom, Nancy Carpenter; three brothers Howard Carpenter (Chiharu), Roseville, CA; Frankie Carpenter, Westernville; and Dan Carpenter (Alison), Montgomery; three sisters Ellen Carpenter, Montgomery; Christine Gilman (Jeff), Frederick, MD; and Jean Carpenter, Utica; sisters-in-law Colleen Carpenter, Peggy Carpenter, Barb Wilson, and Evelyn Bonds; brother-in-law Pat Wilson; nieces and nephews Erin, Sean, Ian, Nathan, Jodie, Jessica, Jon, Johannes, Raphael, Gabe, Tom, Cori, Katie, Meghan, Sara, Eric, Prissy, Angel, Tom, Joe, Tracy, Barbara, Maigen, and Patrick; several grand nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mari requested a “Celebration of Life,” in lieu of formal funeral arrangements, to be celebrated at the home of Daniel and Naomi Barkevich on Monday afternoon, March 13, 2017. Arrangements are under the care of Northville Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
