Lowell K. "Smitty" Smith

Lowell K. Smith, 88 of Yates Hill Road, Hadley NY passed away Sunday morning January 24, 2005 at St. Maryãs Hospital in Amsterdam. Lowell ¶Smitty÷ was born in Salisbury Center, NY on July 9, 1916. He was the son of John and Laura Smith. Lowell was raised in Salisbury Center; went to school in Salisbury Center and Dolgeville, NY. Lowell graduated from the Syracuse University Forestry School at Wanakena, NY. Lowell entered the U.S. Army where he faithfully served his country during World War II from 1941 to 1945. Lowell received and Honorable Discharge on April 1, 1958 with the rank of Major U.S.A.R. Lowell was employed by the National Starch and Chemical Corporation in Plainfield, NJ retiring in January 1981 after 36 years of service. Every fall, Lowell (Smitty) was a patrolman for Tony Farrell and the OHmer Hunting Club in the Edinburg Area. He was of Methodist faith and a member of the Salisbury Center Volunteer Fire Department and the National Historical Society of Salisbury Center. Lowell is survived by his wife; June R. Tocci Smith whom he married April 11, 1968. His daughter; Carol Ann Smith of Monmouth Junction, NJ. His son; Robert J. Smith and his wife Linda of Piscataway, NJ. He is also survived by three sisters; Mrs. Wilma Jarrett of Rush, NY, Ms. Ruth and Cora Smith both of Herkimer, NY. His niece; Elizabeth (Betty) Heisig and husband Charles. He also leaves four great nieces and nephew and six great great nieces and nephew. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edinburg Rescue Squad, P.O.
