Leonard "Pappy" Norman
February 8, 1951 - November 10, 2021
BMCS (SW) Leonard “Pappy” Norman also known as Lenny age 70, passed away on November 10, 2021 with family by his side. He was born on February 08, 1951 in Gloversville, NY to Frederick Norman and Adah Nyhan. Lenny grew up in Mayfield, NY and graduated from Mayfield Central School. After high school he enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1969 and was assigned to Coast Guard Cutter Castle Rock CG32 where his tour of duty was in Vietnam instructing S Vietnamese personnel. After Leaving the Coast Guard he enlisted in the United States Navy where his tour of duty’s were on the USS Navasota an oiler out of San Diego, Ca, Recruiting out of Buffalo NY, Then the USS Richmond K Turner CG 20, and on to a cruiser destroyer out of NOB Norfolk, VA, from there he went to the USS South Carolina guided missile cruiser out of NOB Norfolk, VA , and then on to Beach Master Unit 2 Little Creek Base, VA when he was deployed to Desert Storm. His last tour of duty before retiring from the military was Assault Craft Unit Four (ACU-4) operating a LCAC as a Craft Master. During his military career he earned the Navy Commendation medal, Navy Achievement medal, National Defense SVC medal, South West Asian SVC medal, Kuwait Liberation medal (Saudi), Sea Service Deployment Medal, and other career achievements. After retiring from the Navy He worked for Interstate Pipeline in New Jersey, then went on to work at Miller Environmental. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, also having coffee with friends. In his free time he enjoyed his rescue cats. Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Sirka (Sauve) Norman, daughter Kelly Lawrence, his two beautiful grandchildren Marley and Mason Lawrence. 4 brothers Bob Norman of CA, Bill (Diane) Norman of Rensselaer, Michael (Katherine) Norman of Fonda, Edward Norman of Mayfield also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Kristopher Norman, his parents, brother Johnny Norman, sister in law Cathe Norman and two nephews Joshua and Michael Norman. Family and friends may call on Tuesday November 16th at 11am with service following at 1pm at Northville Funeral Home 401 Bridge Street Northville, NY 12134. A Burial will follow immediately at the Prospect Hill Cemetery Northville, NY with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to Tunnel to towers at t2t.org.
