Katherine (Johnson) Klena

May 24, 1949 - March 8, 2015

Katherine (Johnson) Klena died while vacationing in Argentina, Sunday March 8th. She is survived by her loving husband Randy Klena of more than 25 years. Kathy leaves behind two children and their families. Krista Humbert (Olean, NY) and Daniel Hickok (Gloversville, NY) and five adoring grandchildren: Phoenix, Salma, Griffin, Omar, and Quintin. She was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Helen Johnson, and brothers Timothy and Paul. She is survived by sisters: Judy (Tom) Black of Northville, NY, Carol Gardinier of Dunedin, Florida, Mary (George) Gregory of Saranac Lake, NY. and several nieces and nephews. Kathy graduated from Gloversville High School in 1967 and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Empire State College. She was employed at Fulton County Infirmary for more than 30 years. After retiring she continued to work as a social worker at Wells House in Johnstown NY and a part time travel agent. She was a member of the Mayfield Presbyterian Church, "Loving Hands in all Seasons Quilt Guild", and Sacandaga Garden Club. Kathy had a special zest for life and always enjoyed being busy. She had a great love of traveling with her husband to seek out hot spots from the Travel Channel. They made a hobby of visiting Major League Baseball parks as avid Boston Red Sox fans. She had a special knack for games and entertainment at numerous family gatherings. Kathy loved hanging poolside, camping, and vacationing in Maine with family and friends. Because of her love of family she enjoyed spending time with her sisters, children, and grandchildren. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, baking, and gardening both inside and out, her orchids were her special pride. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her. Donations can be made to Mayfield Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday March 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Mayfield Presbyterian Church, 22 North Main Street, Mayfield.
