Joseph Peterson
February 15, 1936 - November 15, 2021
Joseph Peterson passed away peacefully at his home with family on Monday November 15, after a long illness. He was born in Cuba NY on February 15, 1936, to the late John and Helen Valentino Peterson. He spent his first 60 years as a resident of Cuba. He graduated from Cuba Central School and joined the US Navy from 1953-1957. After he was discharged, he returned to Cuba as a mechanic and owned a couple gas stations, an auto body shop and a towing business. He later went to work as a service manager at the local Chevrolet dealership, and finished his career at Morrison Knudsen in Hornell, NY. When he retired in 1995 he moved to Edinburg NY in the Adirondacks and he and his wife built their dream home which they loved for 20 years, until illness required them to move in with their family on the Sacandaga Lake which he loved. In his quiet time, he enjoyed hunting, being outdoors and cutting wood. He loved the sun and boating on the Lake. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed woodworking and making stained glass pieces which he loved giving to his family and friends. One of his stained-glass creations is hanging in the Edinburg town hall. He is survived by his wife Ellen of 64 years and his children, Michelle (Gary) Peterson Galusha of Sacandaga Lake and Michael (Kim) of Cuba NY. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren Zoey and Paige and his niece Sue Scott. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street, Northville, NY. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
