John W. "Jack" Scheiber

February 17, 1933 - October 16, 2015

John William “Jack” Scheiber, age 82 of Wells, NY died Friday October 16, 2015 at home. He was born in Troy, NY on February 17, 1933. The son of the late; William and Emma Madsen Scheiber. He attended Albany Military Academy and following high school joined the Navy. He served on the U.S.S Wasp during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a Registered Nurse at Sunnyview Rehabilitation in Schenectady; he was a Galway Police officer for 5 years, worked as a Sherriff Patrolman for 7 years and then worked for the NYS DEC until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of free masonry and Scottish rite. The Fish House Lodge and Past Patron of Juanita Chapter OES #246. He was a past Fire Commissioner in Wells and a member of the West Milton Rescue Squad for 12 years. Jack enjoyed traveling to the coast of Maine and to Texas. He enjoyed hunting and country music and spent many hours on Galway Lake sailing and canoeing. He devoted many years to his favorite companion German Shepard’s; “Country and Molly”. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed each moment with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; Janet Scheiber of Wells. Daughters; Lisa Scheiber Mattice and husband John of Wells, Patricia Morse of Wells and Victoria Raymond of Fort Myers, Florida (Todd Raymond of Hope). Son; John William Scheiber II and his wife Lisa of Ontario, NY. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son; Robert Scheiber in 2007 and his sister and brother-in-law; Jean and Peter Peterson. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 23, 2015 in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville at 1 p.m. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wells Vol. Ambulance Squad or the Wells Vol. Fire Company. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
