Joaquim "Jack" Penino

Edinburg, New York, Joaquim ¶Jack÷ Penino, passed away on December 22, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at his home, with his family and friends at his side.Born in Maspeth, Queens, New York on February 17, 1937. He was the son of the late Joaquim Penino of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Margherita Clerico of Fileto, Italy. Jack joined the New York City Fire Department in 1960 and during his career was a member of Ladder Company 102, Rescue 2 and Rescue 4.With his wife Marie, Jack moved to Edinburg, New York in 1992 where he served as the President of the Sinclair Heights Corporation, President of the Edinburg Republican Club, Chairman of the Edinburg Planning Board. Jack was a life long member of the BPOE Elks #878, Queensboro. Jack also enjoyed his boat and snowmobiling.Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marie Elizabeth Penino; his children, Janice Hofmann and her husband Tom, Stephen Penino and his wife Victoria, Susan Michalak and her husband Gregg; his step-children, George William Schmidt and Jean-Marie Breslin and husband William; his grandchildren, Brittany Michalak, Melissa Schmidt, Bradley Michalak, Nicholas Hofmann, Adam Penino, Kyra Penino and Ryan Hofmann. His loving sister; Nina Penino; his niece, Laura Bianco and his niece and nephew; Joyce and Joe Carucci and many cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends. May they all inherit his strength, courage and ability to love.Friends may call on Sunday December 26, 2004 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home. They may also call on Tuesday December 28, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Urban Funeral Home, Woodside Queens, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 29, 2004 at 9:45 a.m. at the Saint Maryãs Catholic Church in Queens. Burial will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville NY 12078.
