George Lancaster

December 23, 1948 - February 6, 2022

George Lancaster, age 73, passed away to his heavenly reward on Feb 6, 2022 after many years of courageous struggle with illness. He was born in Schenectady, NY on December 23, 1948. The son of the late George Lancaster Jr. and Rose (Costello) Lancaster. George lived his life for faith, family and community. He was a devout member of Saint Ann Church in Wells. NY belonging to the Holy Rosary Society, a former member of the Parish Board and participated in all activities in service to the needy in his community. He was an avid participant in the food pantry and saw to it that any person in need was able to access his nutritional needs, and also assisted in provided assistance around the holidays in providing dinners and toys to needy families. He belonged to the Wells Seniors Club where he shared many happy adventures, events, and social gatherings. George was an avid fisherman and hunter, skills which he passed on to his son and grandson. When he was no longer able to participate in these activities, he performed needed services to the Wells Fish and Game Club. George also was an active member of the snowmobile club providing support for the sport until his physical limitations no longer allowed him to do so. In the interest of his community he became a member of the Wells volunteer Fire Dept. as Fire Police which is the only function he could provide because of his lung illness. He was a former officer in the Jolie Montaigne Property Owners Association. George also rescued two kitties from the James Brennan Memorial Humane Society, Zoey and Ziva who gave him great joy in life. George was a true and loyal servant of Jesus. He practiced his teaching “to love one another as I have loved you”. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Christine; his beloved mother Rose (Costello) Lancaster, his sons, Michael John Lancaster and Daniel Andrew Lancaster, his brother; Thomas (Paula) Lancaster, his sister, Theresa (Gerald) O'Connor, four grandchildren, Michael Lancaster Jr., Taylor Lancaster, Mia Lancaster, and Elijah Lancaster, two nephews, Keith O'Connor, and Paul Lancaster and grand nieces and nephews. George is also survived by two kitties which he rescued, Ziva and Zoey who brought a great deal of joy to his life. He was predeceased by his father and two children Allison and George. Memorial contributions may be made to Wells Altar Rosary Society, POB 214, Speculator. NY, 12164, Wells Volunteer Fire Company, NYS RTE. 30, Wells, NY 12190 or James Brennan Memorial Humane Society 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078. A service for George will be held in the spring. Sincere gratitude from the family for the love and support received on George's long journey with his illness.
