Everett "Corky" Stuart

March 9, 1929 - May 26, 2017

Mr. Everett “Corky” Stuart of Wells, NY passed away in the early morning hours of Friday May 26th at Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Gloversville following a brief hospitalization. Corky was born on March 9, 1929 in Wells, NY. The son of Paul and Georgianna Clouthier Stuart and the twin of Elwood Stuart, who survives him. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army and was proud to serve his country for the next two years. Upon his discharge he returned to Wells and married Marie Brown who predeceased him in 2011. Together they raised four children in a home next to the family farm where he was born. With the exception of winters spent in Florida during his early retirement years, Corky lived his entire life in Wells. He owned and operated several businesses, selling fuel oil and LP gas and driving school bus for Wells Central School. His final years of employment were spent serving as Town of Wells Highway Superintendent until the time of his retirement in 1995. Cork was well known for his sense of humor, practical jokes and fun – loving spirit. He is survived by his four children; Debbie (Tim) Dillon of Little Falls, Jim (Debbie) Stuart of Huntersville, NC, Carol “Corky” Sanford (Doug Aird) of Wells, and Pam (Rob) Both of Wells. Grandchildren; Michael, Brian and Patrick Dillon, Kate Valent, Paul and Jessica Stuart, Kimberly Farnham, Kayla Hitchens and Sarah Smith. Great grandchildren: Evelyn and James Dillon, Avery and Millie Dillon, Trey and Tessa Valent, Alex Williams and Madison Farnham. He also leaves behind his beloved canine friend "Stormy" who provided him with great joy and companionship. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday May 31, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the North Country Bible Fellowship, 132 Elm Lake Road, Speculator where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Algonquin Cemetery, Wells. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078 or the Wells Vol. Ambulance Corps, PO Box 550, Wells, NY 12190. Arrangements are under the care of Northville Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
