Doris K. Guyon

August 18, 1924 - May 16, 2022

Doris King Guyon passed away on Monday, May 16, just four months after her husband Bill, and after a wonderfully full, loving and long life. She was born on August 18, 1924, and grew up in Queens Village, NY, the youngest child of Alberta Haring King and Edward Percy King. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, she attended the Scudder Secretarial School and took a job in New York city with the Conde Nast Publishing Company, working at Vogue and Vogue Patterns. On April 2, 1949, she married her lifelong partner Bill in a ceremony at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, Queens Village, N.Y. They initially settled in the area before moving to a new house in the Hill Terrace development in Glen Head on Long Island, where they raised three children. Doris was marvelously creative, an excellent seamstress and had a great style, always turned out smartly dressed and accessorized for every occasion. She also adored gardening and flowers and was a keen member of the garden club in Glen Head where she participated in many shows and won numerous awards for her arrangements. Later on, she went back to work, taking a job as a clerk at the Manhasset Public Library, a perfect job for an avid reader! She retired from that job in 1984 when she and Bill moved upstate to Benson, N.Y. in the foothills of the Adirondacks, enjoying time in the great outdoors. The latter dozen years they moved closer to the village of Northville, N.Y. before moving to a retirement residence in Troy, N.Y. Doris became very involved in two Garden Clubs in the area and was very active in the Sacandaga Garden Club. She volunteered at the local food pantry, participated in the book club at the local library, gardened and enjoyed many friends. She was a dedicated member of the Northville United Presbyterian Church and church community. She was the kindest, sweetest, most creative, helpful and caring person and will be missed by many. She is survived by her three children, Roberta Drake, Madeline Morrow, Donna Truland, their husbands, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There will be viewing hours on Sunday, May 22 from 3-5pm at the Northville Funeral Home at 401 Bridge Street in Northville. The funeral will take place on Monday, May 23 at 11am at the Northville United Presbyterian Church on Reed Street, with burial to follow in King Cemetery, Town of Northampton. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Northville Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
