Cornelius J. "Jack" Smith

November 17, 1931 - February 4, 2017

Cornelius “Jack” Smith, age 85, a resident of Sinclair Road, Edinburg died Saturday February 4, 2017 at the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. He was born on November 17, 1931 in Syracuse, NY. He married Phyllis Brooks on January 30, 1954. They shared a beautiful union of 56 years until her passing on February 25, 2010. He is the son of the late; Cornelius and Agnes Beagle Smith. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and later, a graduate of Lemoyne College in Syracuse with a degree in Engineering. He was employed by AT&T in White Plains, NY and retired after 31 years. Jack was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church; he served as Secretary of the Great Sacandaga Lake Fisheries Federation, a member of the Great Sacandaga Lake Advisory Council and the Edinburg Republican Club. Jack also loved to fish and hunt. Survivors include children; Judy Tobia of Day, Cathy Catalano of Mount Pleasant, SC, Joanne Delpup of Blairsville, GA, Kevin Smith of Middletown, Sharon Kelly of Warwick, Dennis Smith of Warwick, Bridget Smith of Suffern, and Sean Smith of Warwick. Ten grandchildren also survive him. Friends may call on Thursday February 9, 2017 from 2pm to 6pm at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge Street, Northville NY 12134. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Northville. Burial will be held in Batchellerville Cemetery, Edinburg in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the GSL Fisheries Federation, PO Box 991, Northville, NY 12134.
