Charles (Chuck) V. Margies Sr., age 78 of Wells, NY went to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 15, 2020. He was born in Long Island City to Eduard and Margaret Margies on December 8, 1941. One day after Pearl Harbor, as he would always remark. Chuck worked 25 years for John’s Auto Service, Douglaston, NY. In 1988 he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a diesel mechanic. He retired from the Post Office in 2007. Besides raising his family on Long Island, in North Massapequa, he was involved in his church parish of St. James, Seaford, NY, as a Eucharist Minister, Usher, The Pre Cana Program, CCD Program and an Adult Leader with the Antioch Youth Group. Along with his wife he was a team member for Marriage Encounter. Upon retiring full time to Wells in 2007 Chuck was a member of Wells Seniors, Wells Volunteer Ambulance, Wells Fire Company, Wells Historical Society, St. Ann’s Church and Caretaker for the Jolie Montaigne Beach for many years. Chuck was a kind and gentle soul. He didn’t preach the Bible, but he lived it every day. He was a master mechanic, gifted in diagnosing. He loved being outdoors and sharing time with his family. Chuck was kind with a loving heart of gold. He welcomed all wherever he was. He loved to talk, but it was always a lesson to share. He had several favorite sayings, “You have two ears and one mouth or What a drag it is getting old. As Alzheimer’s began, he would tell everyone, it is like I opened a book, and the pages are blank.” Chuck was a devoted husband, Father of five, grandfather of thirteen, Uncle and friend. Chuck was predeceased by his parents and older brother Edward James. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores, his children Laurie Collins (Peter), John E. Margies, Janine Wagner (Garth), Charlie Margies (Bethanne) and Jessica Chappell (Curtis). His grandchildren; Patrick Collins, PJ Collins, Sierra Margies, Ryan Collins, Skye Margies, Liam Collins, Christopher Chappell, Alex Margies, Cameron Chappell, Elizabeth Margies, Garth Jon Wager, Rhiannon Wager and Julie Wager. Also, his brothers; Donald A. Margies (Carol) and Robert Margies (Paula). A Celebration of Life Mass and Reception will be held at a later date.
