Rev. Dr. Alf O. Olsen

November 2, 1934 - July 22, 2014

The Reverend Doctor Alf O. Olsen, age 79, died at his summer residence in the Adirondacks on July 22, 2014 after a brave, 12 year battle with cancer. Born in Lista, Norway, he grew up in Brooklyn, NY and subsequently Roxbury, NJ. He was called by God into the pastoral ministry early in his life. He served in the United Methodist Church at appointments in West New York, NJ; Staten Island, NY; Bound Brook, Butler, and Stanhope, NJ. He retired from the ministry in 1993, but continued to serve the Lord throughout the rest of his life. Alf was a visionary and true adventurer, who loved life and possessed an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Alf and Arleen traveled extensively and now reside in Pennsylvania. He is survived by his loving wife Arleen, their three daughters Julie Frerichs, Lynn Williams, and Christine Olsen-Liney, and their families, which include 12 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on August 9th, 2014 at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church, 5 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ, 07405 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Gospel Volunteers, PO Box 250, Speculator, NY, 12164-0250.
