Life Legacy

Shirley J. Hunt, 71 of Buttermilk Hill Road, Wells died Saturday January 9, 2010 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House following a long illness. She was born in Gloversville, NY on July 18, 1938.  The daughter of the late; Harry and Doris Loux Hurd.  She was a graduate of Gloversville High School.  She was employed as a secretary and book keeper for Hunt Brothers in Wells for many years.

She was a member of the Wells United Methodist Church where she was lay leader and very active in church functions.  She was a member of the Red Hats, the Wells Senior Citizens, she was active in organizing Wells Old Home Days, she was a former member of the Wells Central School Board of Education, a former cheer leading coach at the Wells School, a member of the Pickleville Cloggers.

She was senior citizen of the year for Hamilton County in 2007, she worked as a dispatcher for the Ambulance and Fire Department in Wells and she was also active in the food pantry. 

Survivors include her husband; Donald R. Hunt of Wells.  Two sons; Elmer VanHoesen Jr. of Gorham, NH and Brian VanHoesen of Florida.  Two daughters; Brenda Jensen of Northville and Connie Marcellus of Johnstown.  Four brothers; Robert Hurd of Petersburg, NY, Peter Hurd of Ohio, George Hurd of Gloversville and Donald Hurd of Palatine Bridge.  Eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.  She was predeceased by her sister; Jenene Morey. 

Friends may call on Tuesday January 12, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 13, 2010 at 11 a.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valle Hospice or Wells Methodist Church.  Condolences may be made to the family online at www.northvillefuneralservice.com.
