Life Legacy
Ida Baker Parslow, 89, of Piseco, New York, died on Sunday, October 25, 2009.
Born October 4, 1920 in Baldwinsville, New York, the daughter of William and Mary (Fravor) Baker.
She moved to the Piseco area as a young girl where her mother ran a boarding house at Bonnie Brae in Higgin’s Bay. After graduating from Wells High School in 1939, she worked in area hotels for 2 years until she attended the NYA School in Auburn, N.Y., to study culinary arts and home management.
She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps September 1, 1943 where she worked as a baker for 2 years at posts in the U.S., Hollandia on the northern coast of New Guinea, then on to Leyte and eventually Manila in the Philippines. There she served as a Mess Sergeant until the end of the war. After the war she returned to Piseco where she married, made a home, and raised a family with Carl Parslow . Their home was always a hub of activity for friends and relatives. Mrs. Parslow was active in local organizations, enjoyed playing cards, crochet, and traveling.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Susan Scantlebury, Carla Schidzick and William Parslow,10 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved twin Ila Ploss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 44 years Carl Parslow, brother William Baker.
and sister Myrabell Savarie.
A private interment will take place at convenience of the family.
