Life Legacy


Phyllis A. Smith, 77 of Sinclair Road, Edinburg died Thursday February 25, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. She was born in Auburn, NY on October 4, 1932. The daughter of the late; Leroy and Josephine Brooks. She attended Le Moyne College and was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas College in Orangeburg, NY with a BS in Sociology. She then obtained her Nursing Degree from Rockland Community College. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Bergen Pine Hospital in Paramus, NJ.

She was a communicant of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Northville. A member of the Edinburg Historical Society, a member of the Sacandaga Garden Club. She was the Treasurer for the Edinburg Quilting Club, and on the Board of Directors for the Edinburg Quilting Club. She was also a member of the Edinburg Republican Club.

Survivors include her husband; Jack Smith of Edinburg. Three sons; Kevin Smith of Middletown, Dennis and Sean Smith both of Warwick. Five daughters; Judy Tobia of Day, Cathy Catalano of Mount Pleasant, SC, Joanne Delpup of Monsey, Sharon Kelly of Warwick and Bridget Smith of Tuxedo. Ten grandchildren also survive her.

Friends may call on Monday March 1, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Northville. Burial will be held in Batchellerville Cemetery, Edinburg in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam or the American Cancer Society.
